Honoring the Senior Class of 2024

On Friday night, October 6th, the 12 marching band members of the Senior Class of 2024 were recognized before the last home football game of the year. The senior band members this year are: Darren Bermes, Emmy Bice, Joe Coomer, Delaney Crilly, Katy Gilbert, Bella Harber, Ava McAlexander, Braedon Miller, Alex Raby, Ean Schindler, Rogan Thiele, and Josiah Thomas. These students are a very strong group of musicians and leaders in the band. It was a very cold and rainy night, and we hoped that the rain would hold off so these seniors could enjoy their last home football game. The seniors and their parents/supporters gathered under the bleachers at the football field to line up for Senior Night. The senior members of the band, football team, cheerleaders, and golf team were all recognized on Friday. Ava McAlexander represented both the Spirit of Woodlan and the football team and walked with her parents when the football team was announced. After the senior band members were announced, the rain started coming down more steadily, and the decision was made that the band would not be performing at the football game. The band was sent inside to keep their uniforms dry, as they had an early morning on Saturday, and their uniforms would not dry out by morning. After the seniors were recognized, they too headed for the band room and changed back into their clothes. The band was dismissed for the evening, and the seniors missed out on performing the national anthem, school song, and half-time show for the last time on Etzler Field. Though they did not get to perform, we were grateful that they were able to be recognized before the rain started falling more heavily.
